Two Turtle Doves Christmas Wedding Cake
|
The Story behind this Cake
I made this cake for a facebook collaboration called The Twelve Days of Christmas. I chose day two - Two Turtle Doves. I wanted to use different textures and colours but keep the cool tones for a wintery feel. I gained inspiration from Christmas cards with doves for the middle tier.
The top tier was a 4"' middle tier was a double barrel 6" and the bottom tier was 8". This cake would serve around 60 people. The top tier is covered with tiny fondant sequins that I hand cut from grey fondant with a small piping tip. I then place each one by hand using piping gel as a glue. It was long and tedious process but I like the uniform look. The sparkle was achieved using silver lustre dust mixed with lemon extract and then using a dry silver edible dust over the top once dried. I used MMF for the whole project. I made the flower stamen by hand using a fondant tool to make the marks. I also cut the leaf shapes by hand and used the back of a knife to make the markings. For the sparkle on the trees i used piping gel once again and then sprinkled white sugar crystals on the branches. The doves were hand cut from fondant as were the petals for the flowers. I wanted to completely cover the top tier with sequins for a silvery and sparkly effect. My favourite tools on this project were the Wilton metal ball tool, Americolor Super Red gel color and Wilton's silver lustre dust. As this cake was for a collaboration I used a dummy cake so sadly had to be stripped down for another project!
