Beauty and the Beast Birthday Cake |
The Story behind this Cake
This Beauty and the Beast themed cake is a "background" cake for the licensed figurines. Chocolate cake covered in fresh vanilla fondant and topped with a juice glass that was converted with fondant into a dome. Sugar roses and a hand painted bookcase also decorate this cake.
Decorating the Beauty and the Beast cake was a detail challenging project but not too hard. I just covered the cake in a yellow fondant, draping it loosely so it would fall like a skirt. I then took the still semi soft "bookshelf" piece I had painted right before covering the cake and attached that to the draped fondant. At that point I rolled out 6x4 pieces of fondant and then folded them slightly to make the drapes. The first set of drapes had been tinted a little darker of a golden yellow to give them a "shadowed" appearance. These were attached to the draped fondant with a bit of water and a toothpick to hold them into place. I then allowed them to bond for an hour before removing the toothpicks and adding the top drapes and front drapes. The roses were added next. They are just royal icing roses that have been allowed to sit till totally dry. One the topper was added I was able to place the figurines, securing them with royal icing, on the cake board. I placed the two on top of the cake and gently pushed down so there would be marks I could see when I finally placed them on top at the party. The topper is a juice glass that has been turned upside down. I covered the bottom of the glass in the darker fondant and then made "finial" pieces out of the lighter fondant. When those were dry I attached them to each other and finally onto the glass. The rose inside the glass is on a wired stem that extends down into the cake. The rose, dome and top figures were added last minute at the party set up. Share a cake by Cat's Cakes |
