Lego Birthday Cake

The Story behind this Cake
My inspiration for the Lego cake came from the Lego movie that was showing in Cinemas at the time. My client didn't have any special ideas in mind. So when I proposed this, she was very happy to go with it. I chose a square cake tin for my chocolate cake as I thought it would be a better match for Lego bricks. Decorating the cake with the bricks was a challenging task. I cut the rectangular shapes in a variety of colours and used edible glue to attach them to the cake surfaces. After this was done, I used a Lego brick silicon mould to create my own Lego topper. It was as if I was playing with real Lego bricks! Trying to cut them to the right size to cover the whole surface of the cake and fill all the gaps. I left the middle part of the cake plain in order to show the depth of the bricks. I used the Lego's logo colours to colour the birthday boy's name. Also, as a nice surprise for my client, I made five cupcakes, each of them having one letter of the birthday boy's name as a topper. When they collected the cake, they were extremely happy with the results. This reflects in the beautiful review she wrote for me on the North Shore Directory site. I really enjoyed making this cake. Although it was challenging and time-consuming, it was definitely made worthwhile by a happy client at the end. Happy caking! Share a cake by Sweet Lilac Cakes |
