Boy Frozen Birthday Cake |
The Story behind this Cake
I was asked to create a Frozen themed birthday cake for a 6 year old boy.
I'd only seen Frozen cakes focus on the girl characters so I was excited to give this a go. This was a great way to practice figures as I've only been doing this for a month. I started with making the characters out of fondant and left them to harden before being applied. The head of Kristoff was my biggest challenge, I'm a total perfectionist and in this case I was my worst enemy and now know I need to find my own style rather than being exact. Sven's antlers also took a few tries and putting wires in was the best option. I've heard a lot about sugar gum paste, tylose etc so I will be looking into these to help me. I'd like to avoid using anything that is not edible but sometimes it's not that easy. The inside cake is triple layer vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream and strawberry jam. Top half is carved for a mountain effect but it's not easy to see from these photos (learning how to take professional photos will be top of the to do list lol). The entire decoration is made from fondant. Next was the ice shards, I love the look of this! And so simple to do, just sugar, water and Liquid Glucose - amazing product! Click to see the recipe I used. The other product I recommend is Pearl Lustre Dust - really made it look magical and snow like. Can be brushed on or painted, for this cake I brushed it on lightly. I've received great feedback from this cake and makes the whole process worth it. I hope I can make a success out of my business but only time will tell. Thank You for taking the time to read this and please check out my recent cakes :) Share a cake by Cake DeeVine |
