Princess Castle 1th Birthday Cake
|
The Story behind this CakeThis cake was made for Sonia, a beautiful girl who turned one. I always wanted to make a princess castle cake , until I finally had the chance to make my first castle. I have organized the work in 3 days : Day 1: Preparation of decorative details The first day was dedicated to make all the decorations, including the towers, cake board cover, flowers, name etc. To form the towers I have used rolls of paper towels, wrapped them in foil. I rolled my fondant and gave texture with a stone mat and wrapped it. I let it harden upright. To form the top tower cones I did differently color palette, as I wanted a touch of fairy castle. I made battlements by cutting strips of the same size and then using a straight frill cutter. I let them dry on the cake mold to allow drying taking its circular shape. I covered the cake board with grey fondant also textured with stone mat. For the driveway used different colors, randomly placed and rolled. Then textured. I made flowers with jem cutters, then gave them shape, and placed non pariels in the center and let them dry. Day 2: Baking, Creams and filling. The castle consists of two cake, 8'' and 4''. Both fluffy vanilla cake. The second day I baked, then I made vanilla swiss meringue buttercream with smashed oreos cookies, and Nutella swiss meringue buttercream. Filled and frosted at night. Let them cool overnight. Day 3: Assembly and Decoration Finally the day came. I really wanted to see the end result. I covered both cakes with fondant. Use a mixture (50/50) of gel colors (Americolor avocado / teal). I made the grass with royal icing (americolor leaf green). I used wilton tip #233 and #1. I glued towers, banner and battlements with white royal icing. I textured fondant with a wood roll to make the main door. Very happy with the result, although a lot of work to improve. Thanks!
