The iPhone Birthday Cake
Must Have for this Cake |
The Story behind this Cake
I was asked to make an iPhone cake for a 14 year old girl.
The customer sent me a photo of an iPhone cake which was a simple rectangle with an iPhone screen printed on top. She wanted a pastel green colour with some sparkling bands around it. I measured the iPhone and doubled the size. It was going to be really thin. So I decided to put it in the original packaging and use the box to give the cake the height I wanted. I covered the cake in pastel green. Then cut a light cream coloured fondant band and covered the bottom of my cake, with another white band on the top to create a white cardboard box. Rolled a grey fondant and cut the iPhone screen. I started putting the details like camera lens, speakers and etc. I used small silver sugar pearls and stuck them around the iPhone base on top of the box. Then I made the earphones from fondant and put it on the board with the name of the birthday girl. I didn't like the printed look. It was easy to make but it wasn't going to satisfy me. I needed a more challenging task. I wanted to try making all the icons. So I started looking for images of iPhone icons in the Internet. And picked the necessary icons. I tried using the cool apps that a 14 year old would use! Also I needed nice colours. I changed the size to what would sit best on my screen. First I cut the square icons in different colour that I needed. Copied the images on a transparent sheet of paper and then onto the fondant. Left it to dry for a couple of minutes and started cutting my shapes in different colours. It was definitely challenging and time consuming. Put 14 notifications on the Facebook icon representing her age. Every icon that was completed gave me the satisfaction I needed. Share a cake by Sweet Lilac Cakes |
