Animal Themed 1th Birthday Cake

The Story behind this Cake
This little Zoo themed animal cake was made for a one year old little girl. She loves going to Zoo and looking at the giraffes and zebras. So the idea came from a combination of both animals. I used a 6" round cake and frosted it in vanilla buttercream and then covered it with the pink fondant. I used a pizza wheel to cut the zebra strips from black fondant and attached them with edible glue. The materials used for this cake were: a rolling pin, pizza wheel, spatula and a knife. Materials used were toothpicks, glitter, edible glue, and edible paint/dust for the giraffe. For the giraffe I made 4 equal sized teardrops. They were placed closed together and allowed to dry over night. I then made another large teardrop which I bent it making the neck. Using the knife I did the indents on the giraffe. I placed the large teardrop on top of the 4 legs and allowed it to set. Using a toothpick I attached a round ball (head). Using black pears I added the eyes and made the facial expressions on the face. I then added the ears and the nose. Lastly I used the dust colors to add a little bit of definition to the indents which were made with the knife. The #1 was made with a #1 cookie cutter. I rolled out the fondant very thick 1" or more and then cut the number out. I inserted a toothpick and allowed the number to dry. Once the #1 was dry I used the edible glue to cover the number. I then covered it in glitter and once again allowed it to dry. Once both items were dry I placed them on the cake and done!!! I enjoyed making this cake so much, I keep the photo on my phone and love looking at it because it always makes me smile. Share a cake by CopCake Cakery |
