The Story behind this Cake
Hello everyone, I'm Ceri from Ceri's Cakes.
This cake was requested by a lady who had traveled all the way from Australia to Jersey (Channel Islands). They were celebrating Megan's 16th Birthday with all the family who lived in jersey. The cake itself is a 10" Vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream and strawberry jam. I made the fish raised by inserting large drinking straws into the cake and covering those with green sugarpaste (fondant). I then made the fish by hand, waited for them to dry slightly before inserting them onto the straws (once the green had dried). Everything on the cake is handmade from sugarpaste. The lettering is made using Tappits. The board is then decorated using brown sugar to give the sand effect. I made the vertical weeds the previous night so that they dried hard before adding them to the cake (royal icing at the bottom of each one, holding them in place).
