Carousel Birthday Cake

The Story behind this Cake
This was my first carousel cake, made for a Sarah's daughter's first birthday. Sarah wanted a very girly theme whilst still keeping it childlike. So I decided on a carousel that had more a cutesy feel to it rather than an elegant carousel. I was looking forward to making this as I really wanted to try a carousel cake! The top of the carousel was made from rice krispie treats and ganache over the top for a smooth finish for me to then cover it in strips of fondant. The base is a Victoria sponge, decorated with pinks and gold detailing around the cake. It has smaller cake board on top for the horses, which had a dowel running through the middle of them. The middle of the carousel is also RKT covered in fondant. The horses were made a week beforehand to allow them to dry, they were made from fondant mixed with tylose powder. I added brown curls for the horses hair and tail, then added some gold edible paint around the saddle for the final touch.
Finally the cake was ready for delivery. Share a cake by Becky's Blooming Bakery |
