Taylor and Wilson Cat Birthday Cake
|
The Story behind this Cake
My niece turned 16, and I wanted to do something creative for her birthday bash. She loves animals (even asked for a pig for her birthday) and her cat Wilson is very special to her. She is also fashionable and girly. I created this cake with the idea of featuring Wilson on top (I like to call him Willy Nelson) and then other Cats celebrating birthdays. I covered the cake in fondant. Then I hand cut hearts, and polka dots for the top and bottom tier. I hand painted the hearts and tiny polka dots gold with highlighter dust that I mixed with vodka. Previously, I had searched for a necklace that my niece could keep after the cake was eaten. I love Betsey Johnson pieces, and found the perfect Cat Cameo for her cake. That became the focal point for the middle tier, and I attached it with royal icing. I then used edible images to make the hearts on a stick and place those on the edges of the tiers, and back of the cake. I kept the sticks long so that I could angle the pictures and they would stay in place. It was a lot of fun to make!
