Georgia's 4st Castle Birthday Cake
|
The Story behind this Cake
This castle was made for my grand daughter Georgia (turning 4). She has watched me making and sending away many cakes for other children over this last year - and every time a cake leaves she very quietly tells me what she thinks I have done well and what she would like to have on her own birthday cake.
When it came time for Georgie's cake she and I sat and completed a sketch of what it needed to include. All of the components on the cake are things she requested! A mix of Princess and Frozen and things she has seen on other cakes - however all her own layout and design! The cake is a rich moist chocolate filled with ganache and covered in fondant. Two tiers 8" and 6" stacked towards the back of 13" baseboard. Towers were made by fondant rolled around PVC piping and dried. Wafer cone was used for the turret and then circles of fondant cut and glued - frilled as each layer was added. Sparkle luster dust was brushed onto each frills edge. Ivy leaf cutter was used to cut leaves glued to turret window along with assorted press and cut flowers to achieve window box look. Turrets were attached to cake with a small amount of royal icing. The sugar glass shards at the top of the cake are made from coloured sugar syrup - and while still warm were twisted around a drinking glass. Not easy to do as you have to work quickly before sugar hardens - but a lot of fun! I am a hobby caker - self taught and been making cakes now for around 8 months. I have a facebook page where I share my creations with other avid cakers! Share a cake by Hilz Marshall Cakes |
