Chilled Out Gardener Birthday Cake

The Story behind this Cake
This was a 70th birthday cake for a garden enthusiast who also likes his red wine.
I thought it would raise a laugh with the party guests to imply he liked his wine rather too much! The cake was a light fruit cake which has rather unusual ingredients of prunes and apricots soaked in sherry and orange juice. The result is a very moist cake with a lovely flavour. All the models were hand made. The bird bath and 2 boozed-up robins were an afterthought but added to the fun. All the models were made from flower paste because of it's hardening qualities and hand modelled. No cutters or stencils were used. The wheelbarrow was painted with edible silver paint. The bushes were made with ordinary homemade sugarpaste then over piped with a greaseproof leaf bag. The path and board was dusted with various earthy colours to give a more natural effect. I was told the guests couldn't get enough of the cake and that the birthday boy thankfully saw the funny side. Phew! Share a cake by Sugarpaste Dreams |
