Pirate 1th Birthday Cake
|
The Story behind this Cake
This is the cake I made for my sons 1st Birthday! It was really fun to make but also a challenge as it was my first figure I made by myself without the use of people molds.
The pirate was modeled on the "Pirate Captain" character from the movie "The Pirates! In an adventure with scientists!". He is made entirely from modelling sugar with a couple of cocktail sticks inside for support. The treasure chest is also made from modelling sugar and the gold detail was painted on with edible gold paint. They were placed on light brown sugar to represent sand on the cake board. The pirate ship was carved from chocolate fudge cake and covered in sections of fondant. I drew the planks on while the fondant was soft. I added all the decorations I had already made onto the ship after the fondant had dried for 24 hours. The sails are made from edible rice paper and threaded onto bamboo skewers covered in brown florist tape. As the rice paper was semi-transparent I was able to trace the wording onto the front sail before inserting into the cake. The crow's nest was molded from a little truffle case I had in the cupboard. I hope you like the cake as much as I enjoyed making it!
