Fancy Nancy Birthday Cake

The Story behind this Cake
What an honor to have been asked to blog about one of my favorite cakes in 2014!
The client gave me free reign on design with 2 requests a crown and make up. This was exciting because most cake requests come straight from Pinterest. Finally I got to make something that was all me! The crown was made out of gum paste. I like to use this recipe as it dries super fast and is easy to work with as follow:
I painted it with edible gold dust liquified with some Vodka) But the crown wasn't fancy enough to my taste so I ordered some edible jewels from Etsy. These are her "ugly jewels" they have flaws but to fill a crown they were perfect! The cake was Chocolate and White Wedding Cake. I use the WASC recipe for all my cakes and adjust it to the flavor needs. It is great flavor and after a night in the fridge it is great for sculpting and holds up fondant cakes like a boss. The cake was dressed in my home made fondant. You can adjust the recipe depending your weather conditions add some flavor (oils) like vanilla, cotton candy to make it taste awesome! Here is my fondant recipe:
And last all the little decorations. I used my own make up as a guide line but there are awesome tutorials on youtube and Pinterest. I printed some Fancy Nancy images on rice paper and she was ready to go! Hope you enjoyed this blog. Love from Beavercreek, Ohio! -Sandra Share a cake by Sandy Cakes Design |
