Tree of Life Wedding Cake

The Story behind this Cake
Here is a unique 'tree of life' wedding cake from this weekend 6/9/14! The ceremony was held on Myponga Beach South Australia-Beautiful.
The bride and groom came to me with a unique idea of wanting the 'tree of life' somewhere on their cake as it is very symbolic to them as a couple! They have both been married before and this tree really symbolises their relationship, past, present and future! We decided together that as the 'tree of life' meant so much it really should be the focal point of the cake therefor we did a 10'' and 8'' and on top should be the 'tree of life'! The celtic band around the base of the bottom tier was printed in a similar style and the colours matched the tree! Quite simply they are both printed edible images! (it's quite a simple way of getting a clean, bold design onto a cake relatively quickly and neatly without having to hand paint etc) It is amazing how effective a print can be and to be able to eat it is a bonus! You can get almost any photo printed onto icing using edible ink from cake supply shops or even buying a new printer and inserting edible ink cartridges and doing it yourself!
Check this decorating tip When getting the edible image out from the backing paper and you are having trouble peeling it off, pop the image into the freezer for 30 seconds and when you take it out this should stiffen the icing just enough for you to put a pallet knife under and gently ease the image from the backing! (don't leave it in there for too long though as you don't want the image to get wet as it will become sticky and very hard to handle!) The flavour of the bottom tier was a mixed berry mud cake (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and red currants) and rich dark chocolate ganache. The top tier was a white chocolate and raspberry mud cake with whipped white chocolate ganache both covered in fondant. They are very rich cakes but delicious. I hope this inspires you to give edible images a go on your next cake even a wedding cake! The results can be quite eye-catching! Share a cake by Cake Bites |
