4 Tier Royal Blue Wedding Cake
|
The Story behind this Cake
This wedding cake was for my daughter to coincide with her navy theme.
She wanted something a bit different and for it to be the talking point at the reception. We were both over the moon with the result. The alternating blue and white made the handmade sugarcraft flowers really stand out. The top flower spray took hours but was definitely worth it and this has definitely become the cake I am most proud of. The bottom tier was a homemade rich fruit cake (the fruit had been soaked for several days in brandy before using), the other 3 tiers were butter vanilla sponge filled with jam and buttercream. All the sugarpaste covering was also home-made (I do not use shop bought paste). The topper comprised of home-made calla lilies (this was the 1st time I had made lilies), roses, pulled flowers and mini blossoms all wired together into a spray with ribbon loops. I never use a cutter for my roses - I form each petal individually and attach it around a centre bud. All were then dusted with lustre powder to give a sheen. The roses 'climbing' up the sides were made the same way but were not on wires.
The entire cake was dowelled - 1 central and then 4 on each tier to support each board. Share a cake by Sugarpaste Dreams |
